Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams speaking from Cork today said he was pleased that the British Prime Minister and the Taoiseach are meeting on Sunday and that the Foreign Affairs Minister Brian Cowen is engaging with the DUP this evening in Belfast. Mr Adams said: "Tonight's engagement and Sunday's meeting, along with the ongoing contact between our party and the two governments is a sign of the more focused approach that is necessary to resolve the problems which have bedevilled the process".  View more


 
Sinn Féin TD calls for government movement on Colombia Three

Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe, speaking in the Dáil this evening called on the Irish government to move heaven and earth to ensure the safe return to Ireland of the Colombia 3. Mr Crowe has been to Colombia on several occasions to visit the men himself. The current situation in Colombia remains unclear. The men have been acquitted of the serious charges against them, however they remain in jail, and there are no immediate plans to get them home. Sinn Féin MLA and Bring Them Home spokesperson, Caitríona Ruane, has said that the men's lives and the lives of the Irish observers who are out there, are in grave danger.  View more


 
Innocent man denied right to compensation

A man who spent 10 years in prison as a result of a miscarriage of justice, before his conviction was quashed on appeal has been stripped by the British Law Lords of his right to compensation. Nicholas Mullen, of north London, was sentenced to 30 years in June 1990 for conspiracy to cause explosions.  View more


 
Murphy slams Electoral Commission Report

Commenting on the publication today of the Electoral Commission Report into the conduct of the November Assembly election, Sinn Féin Assembly Group leader Conor Murphy said that the report missed the point when it claimed that no fraud took place during the campaign. Mr Murphy said: " The Electoral Commission is reporting today that no fraud took place during the November election. This completely misses the point.  View more


 
Election candidate coverage starts today

Beginning today, IRM is bringing its subscribers profiles of its candidates in the European and local elections this June. These elections have the potential to be Sinn Féin's biggest to date. The party already has hundreds of elected representatives on councils throughout the island, but after June their number could be doubled. Currently it has no elected representatives in the European Union Parliament. Sinn Féin is running five EU election candidates and is the only party to offer candidates on an all-Ireland basis.
