Sinn Féin's Dublin EU candidate Mary Lou McDonald has described Irish Minister for Justice Michael McDowell's weekend attacks on republicans commemorating the 1916 Rising as 'juvenile' and said it was like something from a school playground. Speaking after the conclusion of over 100 events that took place right across the island, Ms McDonald described the Minster as having a 'fundamental misunderstanding of the concept of republicanism'.  View more

Last week, a Sunday newspaper reported that the North's International Monitoring Commission (IMC) has adopted a "blood and thunder" approach towards IRA activity. Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Daithí Doolan, expressed disappointment today at the decision by the Dublin Council of Trade Unions to cancel their annual May Day march and rally. Traditionally May Day is considered the workers' day, and Sinn Féin has always had a strong presence at the march.
