Live coverage of Ard Fheis starts tonight

The IRM will be bringing live coverage from the Sinn Féin 2004 Ard Fheis starting tonight. The first debates will revolve around the All-Ireland agenda, European Union and Neutrality, Local Government, and Education. Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams will be making his annual speech on Saturday afternoon and we will send this out in full, as it happens. Sinn Féin 2004 Ard Fheis kicks off

The Sinn Féin Ard Fheis 2004 has kicked off in Dublin's RDS conference centre. The annual conference was opened by Dublin EU candidate Mary Lou McDonald. Ms McDonald offered a warm and friendly welcome to all those present in the 99th year of the Irish Republican movement, known as Sinn Féin. Continuing, she said, "A few weeks ago I listened to a political discussion on a Dublin based radio station. Martin McGuinness has addressed the Ard Fheis on the All-Ireland agenda. Speaking to the hall, Mr McGuinness said: "Motions 1 to 7 deals with National and Democratic Rights and of all the Parties on this island Sinn Féin is best placed to speak to these issues from the point of view of experience on the ground in every part of our Country. Beleaguered Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble came under fresh pressure today as senior members of his party prepared to issue a fresh challenge to him to stand down. Sinn Féin can't be held accountable for every dispute

Sinn Fein cannot be held to account for every dispute which breaks out on the streets, the party's chief negotiator Martin McGuinness insisted last night. As unionists continued to make accusations against the IRA over last week's alleged kidnapping attempt, Mr McGuinness told PA News it was not in his party`s interests for there to be any incident ``which would undermine the Good Friday Agreement or Sinn Fein`s political project``.  View more

Adams rejects Ahern IRA comments

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has strongly rejected comments by the Taoiseach that he had always assumed Mr Adams had been a member of the IRA. Mr Adams said the Taoiseach's assumption was wrong and that he was not a member of the IRA. Speaking to Irish television station RTÉ News yesterday, Mr Ahern said he did not know Mr Adam's present position in relation to the IRA and said he was not concerned about it.  View more
