Murphy meets with North's parties

58% of Irish oppose two-tier Europe

Sinn Féin's EU Candidate for Dublin, Marylou McDonald today responded to an opinion poll in the Irish Times newspaper which claimed that 47% of Irish voters were in favour of an EU Constitution, whilst 58% were against faster and closer European integration. Ms McDonald said: "Sinn Féin welcomes the fact that 58% of those surveyed were opposed to creating an elitist two-tier EU. We have consistently argued that the EU has become an embryonic super state."  View more


 
Catholic killer loses conviction appeal

The High Court in Belfast has upheld the murder conviction of a former Ulster Defence Regiment soldier. Neil Latimer had appealed against his conviction for the murder of a Catholic man, Adrian Carroll, in Armagh in 1983. Latimer and three other UDR soldiers became known as the 'UDR Four' after they were convicted of Mr Carroll's murder.  View more


 
Ruane and Maskey to meet Maghaberry Governor

Sinn Féin Equality and Human Rights Spokesperson, South Down MLA Caitriona Ruane and Spokesperson on Racism, South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey will meet the Governor of Maghaberry Prison tomorrow, Tuesday 10th February 2004, at 10am to discuss concerns about the conditions faced by Asylum Seekers held in detention.  View more


 
Bloody Sunday Tribunal nears end

The hearing of evidence in the Bloody Sunday Inquiry is expected to finish this week. The last witness is due to testify at the Guildhall in Londonderry on Thursday. The tribunal is examining the events of 30 January 1972 when 13 civilians were shot dead by British army soldiers during a civil rights march in Derry. A 14th person died later.  View more


 
Feature: The tip of the iceberg

In the aftermath of Belfast's anti-racism rally, a report issued by the Six Counties Housing Executive has revealed that more than 30 families and individuals have been forced to flee their homes in the last year due to racially-motivated attacks.
