Sinn Féin rejects DUP proposals

SINN Fein today rejected the DUP's plan to restore devolved government as a blueprint for a return to unionist majority rule. Man cleared of Spy-ring charges slams Special Branch

A man cleared of charges over an alleged spy-ring at Stormont has accused Special Branch police of collapsing the Six Counties executive by an "act of political subversion". The statement was made by Ciaran Kearney at Belfast Magistrates Court where he appeared alongside his father-in-law Denis Donaldson and former Stormont porter William Mackessy.  View more


 
3-year sentence for UDA blackmailer

A former top UDA man, who was 'deliberately careful' not to use explicit threats when he blackmailed an under cover policeman, was sent to jail for three years today. Belfast Crown Court Judge Mr Justice Weatherup said 35-year-old Thomas Potts had `taken care not to use explicit demands` when he tried to extort £10,000 from the officer whom he thought was a representative of a building firm.  View more


 
Gerry Adams most popular party leader

SINN Fein president Gerry Adams has once again polled as the most popular political leader in the South of Ireland. His party has come in a strong fourth place in the most popular party list. The poll, conducted by the Irish Times newspaper, says that Sinn Fein has 12% support, which puts it at its highest level in recent years.  View more


 
UVF leader "stood down" over racist attacks

The paramilitary Ulster Volunteer Force has "stood down" a leader in south Belfast, loyalist sources have told the British television station, the BBC. The move follows a recent spate of racial attacks in the area where Chinese and Pakistani families, including pregnant women, have been forced to leave their homes.  View more


 
Former UUP leader dies

The man who ran against Hunger-Striker Bobby Sands in a Westminster by-election, and lost, has died. Harry West, a former leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, passed away on Thursday. Mr West, 86, from County Fermanagh had been in failing health.  View more
